Photo Diary of Our Bhutan Adventure

Not every traveler knows about the Kingdom of Bhutan, but those who have heard of it dream of reaching the Himalayan Shangri-La. It is one of the most mysterious countries in the world, where tourism is strictly regulated, and mass tourism is nonexistent. Here, you won't encounter crowds, but you'll discover pristine nature, a unique culture, and the genuine hospitality of the locals.

We recently visited this magical country, and everything came together in the most extraordinary way: a vibrant festival in the high-altitude villages of Laya, a meeting with the King of Bhutan himself, an amazing team of like-minded travelers, and our guide Karma, who knows everything (and more) about Bhutan’s culture, traditions, and hidden treasures. Every detail—from the itinerary to the surprises along the way—turned this journey into an unforgettable story that we can’t help but share again and again.

The entire trip was excellently and thoughtfully planned. As a filmmaker, I can highlight the narrative structure about this incredible country that was embedded in the itinerary. Tanya picked an amazing guide and an outstanding driver. I don't know how, but she also managed to gather a fantastic group of people, with whom I’m sure we will stay in touch. Everything was simple and enjoyable. All of our wishes—whether it was visiting a real home, trying authentic Bhutanese cuisine, experiencing their special baths, or even shooting a bow and arrow—Tanya and Karma (our guide) made them happen effortlessly, beautifully, and logically within our itinerary.
What’s especially important to me is that all dietary requests/restrictions were not only fulfilled but exceeded! I honestly worried before the trip whether I would be able to complete all the treks, but Tanya set me up with the right mindset and preparation. Her advice on equipment and mountain behavior made the ascents easier and increased the joy of reaching the summit!

Bhutan is something magical. It’s a super concentrate of Buddhist culture—people in traditional clothing, massive dzongs (fortresses), and mountain temples, with views of the majestic Himalayas! At the same time, there are good roads, modern infrastructure, a friendly population, everyone speaks English, and, most importantly, they use a lot of chili in their cooking.
And with Tanya, it’s always easy and fun! It was amazing.
